May The 4th Exchange Gifts!

I am definitely going to be back to rec more things tomorrow, but I want to start off by reccing the two utterly fabulous gifts I received in the maythe4thbewithyou fic exchange. Both fics focus on Tionne Solusar, a Jedi who trained under Luke Skywalker at the Yavin IV Praxeum. Tionne is a historian and musician, and both fics are centered on music, though in very different ways:

Why You're Reccing It: This story is one of my personal favorites for its rich character explorations and lovely Jedi world-building, along with the appropriately heavy weight it places on all that was lost to Order 66, while keeping hope in the potential for future rebuilding even amidst all the devastation. I tend to really enjoy this kind of canon divergence, where a relatively small difference in a decision, that would be entirely plausible for a character to have made, leads the story in all sorts of new and interesting directions to explore.

Title: Eclipse

Summary: Luke and Leia, the twin children of Darth Vader and heirs to the Emperor himself, defect. When they do, it's naturally a dream come true for the Rebellion and the mother they never knew, one that's been a long time in the making. But they have to get to that point first. Or: Darth Vader unwittingly sends his children down the merry path of treason... and the ugly, painful fallout.

Why You're Reccing It: It's an epic canon divergent AU where Luke and Leia were largely raised as Imperials by Vader. Luke and Leia independently come to the conclusion that they need to defect to the Rebellion… which is not exactly what Vader wanted when he told them he wanted to start a coup against Palpatine. Amazing characterizations from everyone and a strong plot. It is fairly dark in places.

What a gorgeous gifset!

I went and checked out the first few chapters of "Eclipse" after seeing your rec - wow! I had to force myself to stop reading. I'll be diving headfirst into that one as soon as finals are over!

Summary: By an old Republic law, all members of the Jedi High Council are senators in the Galactic Senate, and can thus be voted in as chancellor. A Senator from a less prominent planet has had enough of Chancellor Palpatine's incompetence and calls for a Vote of No-Confidence and the installation of Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi as Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic.
This one action becomes the catalyst that changes the direction of the galaxy.

Why You're Reccing It: It's very good! The premise is a little silly, but it lives up to the "treated seriously" part, with assassination attempts aplenty and some digging into Palpatine's shady actions. There's plenty of humor as well, too. And best of all, the Jedi are represented well here, and written with appreciation and sympathy for them, their culture, and the situation that they're all under.
