That is such an amazing moment - one of the reasons RotJ is my favorite movie!! It's always struck me as a parallel to Obi-Wan's death - you may kill me, but that is nothing. You cannot make me fall to darkness.

Names I go by: I'm Ermingarde in most fannish spaces.
Pronouns: she/her/hers
AO3: Ermingarde
Other Places I Can Be Found: I have accounts on Tumblr and FFN, though I'm not very active on either. I also play Star Wars: The Old Republic, so hit me up if you do too!
How I participate in Star Wars fandom is by: Reading, writing (both fic and meta), and fervent admiration of other fanworks!
Favorite Jedi: Kam and Tionne Solusar, Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Barriss Offee (as she appears in Legends), Callista Masana, Cilghal, Syo Bakarn.
Favorite platonic relationships: I generally love exploring master & padawan relationships. Currently thinking a lot about Luke & Kam and Syo & the Barsen'thor. I'm also fascinated at the moment with how living Jedi might relate to holocrons (i.e., holocron personalities) - to what extent is a holocron an extension of its maker, or an echo, or its own separate being, and how might that change over the use-life of the holocron?
Favorite romantic/sexual relationships: Generally speaking, I'm pretty gen-focused. I do love Beru/Owen/Obi-Wan, though, and I have a big soft spot for Cody/Obi-Wan and Alpha-17/Obi-Wan.
Favorite thing about Star Wars in general: Choosing goodness and light, even in the face of oblivion, is worthwhile; the ends do not always justify the means; hope dwells in the most unlikely places.
A favorite snippet of canon (from a movie, book, comic, whatever): Here is a quote from Showdown at Centerpoint by Roger MacBride Allen. That was the first Star Wars book I ever read, back when I was nine, and it took me from really liking the movies into lifelong love of the galaxy far, far away. Here's the excerpt:
Twelve million people. Luke remembered thinking, not so long ago, that in the galactic time scale, what happened here scarcely mattered at all. All of recorded history, all the days of myth and legend before that time, were a blink in the cosmic eye. But twelve million people, twelve million lives. That many hopes, that many dreams and pasts, that many families, that many memories and histories that would vanish as well, as if they had never been. All the unborn generations that would never be born, all the promise, all the potential, that would be gone, stolen from the galaxy’s future.
Surely it was wrong to destroy a star, something that old, that big, that powerful and complex and beautiful, just for the sake of some transient political advantage.
Luke smiled. No one was going to use supernovas as weapons. Not during his eye blink of history. Not if he could help it.

What I want from this comm is: I'm looking for a place to meet other people who love the Jedi, exchange meta and fic, and collaborate in creating fanworks. <3

Thanks!! I really love the Corellian Trilogy. It's probably because it was my first Star Wars novel, but Allen's characterizations in Showdown at Centerpoint are definitely the biggest influences on how I view and write many characters even today (especially Luke, whose EU characterization is not exactly...consistent.)

Here's another favorite passage, from the same book - and one that touches on Jedi philosophy:
Luke breathed a sigh of relief. That one had been just a bit too close. There were times when the advantages of being a Jedi Master could turn around and bite you, no doubt about it. A regular fighter pilot without the power to use the Force wouldn’t have felt any moral obligation to risk his own life while using the Force to spare his enemies. Luke smiled faintly to himself. One of these old days, his moral obligations to spare life were going to get him killed.

They're so good! I also love the whole concept of Centerpoint itself and the "Celestials" - it's like what Skatzaa was saying about the expansiveness of the canon. It adds another layer to the universe.

Yes, and Luke takes the brunt of that - I think the Luke of the Thrawn Trilogy and the Luke of the Jedi Academy Trilogy, for example, share approximately 2 character traits. (I think there's a Club Jade fic poking fun at that....)

I had the unhappy experience of rereading the JAT over the summer for the first time in a few years and discovering that it is considerably worse than I had remembered. I still have a soft spot for it, though, simply because of Cilghal!

How I participate in Star Wars fandom is by: Mostly reading fic, but writing too (especially for exchanges)
Favorite Jedi: Right now? Mace Windu, Kit Fisto, Agen Kolar, Depa Billaba, Quinlan Vos... the list goes on and on
Favorite platonic relationships: uhhhh. So many. But I'm having lots of feelings currently about the clones and their Jedi, so I'll just say that as a whole
Favorite romantic/sexual relationships: Also a lot of these. The shiniest ones in my brain atm are Cody/Obi-Wan and Cody/Quinlan
Favorite thing about Star Wars in general: Just how much of it there is. Planets and cultures and aliens... and, of course, the Jedi and the clones
A favorite snippet of canon (from a movie, book, comic, whatever): I'm not sure I have one specific thing, lol. At least not that I can think of right now!
What I want from this comm is: I'm mostly a lurker, but I'm looking forward to lurking in a community that's wholly Jedi positive! :-)

Ooooh yes, the expansiveness of the Galaxy Far, Far Away!! Both in the in-universe sense of a dizzying diversity of species and cultures and in the our-world sense that, since Star Wars spans books, movies, games, and more, with dozens of different themes and aimed at various age groups, there really is something for everyone! <3

How I participate in Star Wars fandom is by: Been watching since childhood, but I'm mostly new to the fandom. Watching eps 1-6 repeatedly, reading fic, enjoying fan art, and I intend to start making my own fan art, fic, cosplay costume(s), and learning to wield a light saber.
Favorite Jedi: Anakin, Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, Luke, Yoda, Leia (in my personal AU)...hard to choose. So many interesting characters.
Favorite platonic relationships: I'll read most anything if it's well-written and I'm reasonably familiar with the characters. Lots of intriguing possibilities. I'm fond of stories where Anakin and Padme get to be parents to their children.
Favorite romantic/sexual relationships: Very much a multi-shipper for this fandom, though I'm usually a slash fan. Obi-Wan/Anakin, Obi-Wan/Padme/Anakin, Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan, Leia/Luke, Han/Leia/Luke, Lando/Han...will read many others, too. Read an interesting Vader/Piett one recently.
Favorite thing about Star Wars in general: The very clear and accurate way it describes the nature of Good and Evil and how they function in the universe and in our minds and hearts. The emphasis on how important it is if you choose Good to stick to it, because muddling around in the grey areas can be really dangerous and a slippery slope to self and other destruction. I'm a huge fan of Anakin/Vader's redemption arc, and how it explores the aforementioned themes.
A favorite snippet of canon (from a movie, book, comic, whatever): The moment Anakin takes control over Vader as he watches his son being tortured.
What I want from this comm is: A fun, friendly place to learn more about the fandom, the canon, share my fanworks and enjoy others', where hopefully drama and B.S. will be kept under control.

(P.S. I'm really excited for the upcoming Obi-Wan and Lando series! Curious about Ahsoka, too. Just wanted to stick that in there.)

Glad to have you!! I'm excited to read your fic, see your art and cosplay, and hear about your saber-fighting adventures!

If you like Vader redemption (and Piett!) and you're at least somewhat familiar with the post-RotJ Expanded Universe, then oh boy do I have the fic for you! (Maybe. No pressure.) Meet the Skywalkers by frodogenic is a fabulous gen fic focused on Vader and Piett (with a lot of Luke, too) in a world where Vader escaped the Death Star, headed off in the Executor...and the whole Super Star Destroyer promptly got lost in the Unknown Regions for twenty-eight years. The last chapter was actually just posted yesterday - the fic was first published in 2016, but the wait was worth it.

I adore that moment too. Indy highlighted another part of that scene, Luke's defiance of the Emperor, in her comment. I think in many ways the heart of Star Wars is encapsulated in these two moments. In Luke we see what it means to cling to light no matter the cost, and in Vader we see that anyone, even those who've fallen the farthest, can still turn again toward light - in other words, there's always a choice, and it's not a one-time thing, but a choice to be made again and again every moment.

How I participate in Star Wars fandom is by:fan discussion, meta(mostly reading other people's, I used to write a TON of it like 20 years ago during the Prequel film era, but I burnt out LOL I'm lucky I can string together sentences that make sense at this point(there may be a lot of sentences as I have a hard time keeping things short, but it doesn't mean they'll make much sense :))
Favorite Jedi:Obi-Wan Kenobi(one of my two favorite fictional characters ever), Yoda, Mace Windu, I pretty much love most of the PT/TCW era Jedi(NOT Pong Krell obviously) and am very pro-Jedi in general.
Favorite platonic relationships:all of them? Can't think of any I dislike.
Favorite romantic/sexual relationships:Not that into shipping, don't even care that much about the canon ones. If they come up in discussion I may have opinions on them but they aren't a focus of my fandom. The friendships and found family ideas are more interesting to me.
Favorite thing about Star Wars in general:It's hopeful and positive philosophy. It isn't cynical and it's based on trying to do what's right because it's right, even if it's hard.
A favorite snippet of canon (from a movie, book, comic, whatever):Gosh, I can't narrow that down. :)
What I want from this comm is:interesting discussions, some good fic recommendations from time to time

Hello! Glad you're here!

I'm sorry to hear about your burnout, that sounds rough. I hope you enjoy reading what folks post here, and there's never any pressure to write more than you really want to.

I'm a big Obi-Wan fan too! I'm sensing a theme in people's posts here of centering platonic relationships, and I love that so much.

"very pro-Jedi in general" - then you're definitely in the right place!

"trying to do what's right because it's right, even if it's hard" - that's what it comes down to, isn't it? I love how you phrased it.
